The Olympic Committee holds a coordination meeting regarding hosting the FIBA Congress and the Celebrity Honouring Ceremony 2025
Seef District – Bahrain Olympic Committee: Her Excellency Fatima bint Jaffar Al-Sairafi, Minister of Tourism and Chairperson of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, affirmed the advanced status that sports have reached in the Kingdom of Bahrain at all levels and in various fields, including hosting and organising the most prestigious regional and international sporting events.
This was expressed during her attendance with His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Vice President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, at a coordination meeting held by the Committee with the delegation of the International Basketball Federation, which included Financial Secretary Ingo Weiss. The meeting discussed preparations for Bahrain to host the FIBA Congress and Celebrity Honouring Ceremony in May 2025, which will be held under the generous patronage of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Olympic Committee.
Al-Sairafi explained that the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority is keen to provide all necessary support to develop sports tourism in line with the objectives and pillars of the Tourism Strategy 2022-2026, noting the advanced tourism and sports infrastructure in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
For his part, His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa conveyed the greetings of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa to the FIBA delegation, stressing that His Highness's generous patronage is an important and major factor in the success of this major sporting event and evidence of His Highness's continuous support for the sports movement in general and basketball in particular.
His Highness pointed out the importance of cooperation between the Olympic Committee, the International Federation, Bahrain, and all ministries and government bodies to ensure the success of the hosting, appreciating in the same context the confidence of the International Federation, which confirms the excellence of the Kingdom of Bahrain in hosting and organising major sporting events, pointing to the role of the Ministry of Tourism and the General Sports Authority in preparing the ideal environment and providing support related to the organisational and promotional aspects of this major event.
The meeting was attended by His Excellency Dr Abdulrahman Askar, CEO of the General Sports Authority, His Excellency Fares Mustafa Al-Kooheji, Secretary-General of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, His Excellency Alaa Madara, President of the Bahrain Basketball Association, and a number of members of the Association and the Organising Committee.
It is worth noting that the International Basketball Federation Congress includes all 212 member national federations and is organized every four years. During this period, the International Basketball Federation organises a mid-term conference and a ceremony to honour players and coaches who played major roles in contributing to the development of basketball globally
