Under the patronage of Her Excellency Shaikha Dr Hessa bint Khalid Al Khalifa, a distinguished member of the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Olympic Committee and Chairperson of the Committee for Equal Opportunities between Genders in the Sports Field, the groundbreaking Ramadan Equality Festival for Women’s Sports was unveiled. This premier event took place on the evening of Friday, March 29, 2024, at the American University Hall, marking a significant stride towards gender equality in sports.
The festival was graced by Mrs Fajr Jassim Hassan, a fellow Board Member of the Olympic Committee, alongside esteemed members of the Equal Opportunities Committee and a vibrant assembly of national team athletes across various sports disciplines.
The evening's festivities commenced with a warm reception for Shaikha Dr Hessa bint Khalid Al Khalifa, followed by an enlightening presentation on the pivotal role and objectives of the Committee for Equal Opportunities between Genders in the Sports Field. The cultural segment featured a performance by the Al-Dar band, setting the stage for a night of celebration and recognition.
In a gesture of appreciation, the Al-Dar Band and a representative from the American University were honoured, highlighting their contributions to the festival. The entertainment program, organized in collaboration with Campina Company, unveiled many popular games and challenges like the domino game, the balance challenge, and the magic carpet, among others. These activities fostered a spirited atmosphere of camaraderie and competition, culminating in the distributing of numerous prizes to the delighted participants.
The Ramadan Equality Festival for Women’s Sports aspires to build bridges of friendship among female athletes, underscore the importance of sports engagement, and offer a joyful and inclusive environment for all women in sports. The festival serves as a platform to showcase the talents of female athletes, facilitating their selection for club and national teams while also fostering connections within the management, coaching, and leadership realms of sports.
