On the fifth day of the First Gulf Youth Games hosted in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain's national teams added to their impressive medal count, bringing the total to 24, including 9 gold, 7 silver, and 8 bronze medals.
Triumphant Close for the ‘People with Determination’ Team
The ‘People with Determination’ athletics team concluded their participation in the games on a high note, securing three more medals, including two golds and a bronze. Athlete Sayed Hussein Mahmoud clinched a gold medal in the standing javelin throw with a distance of 22.64 meters, marking his second consecutive gold, in addition to a silver he won earlier. Zaina Al Balushi also earned gold in the standing discus throw, covering a winning distance of 7.60 meters. Her teammate, Fatima Al-Sayed Ahmed, added a silver to her personal tally with a throw of 7.73 meters in the same event. Additionally, Ahmed Nader Nouh captured a bronze in the 400 meters wheelchair race, finishing in a time of 1:05:95.
Athletics Achievements Shine
In the athletics sector, Maryam Ahmed Hussein grabbed gold in the 800 meters with a time of 2:24:09, her second gold medal of the games. Salem Bakhit contributed to the medal tally with a bronze in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking in at 15:46 seconds.
Final Athletic Contests
The athletics team is set to wrap up its events today, with Maysa Al Tamimi competing in the 200 meters hurdles final at the Police Officers Club stadium in Dubai. Al Tamimi advanced to the final after a strong performance in the 100 meters hurdles, positioning herself among the top competitors.

A Tough Outing for Bahrain's Football Team
Bahrain's national football team faced a tough defeat against the host team, the UAE, with a 6-1 scoreline in their second-round match at Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The loss diminishes their chances for a top finish after previous setbacks against Kuwait and the UAE. Jassim Qasim scored Bahrain's sole goal of the match from a penalty in the 61st minute. The team now looks ahead to their final game against Oman on Sunday.
Volleyball, Handball, and Chess Teams Begin Their Campaigns
Today, the Bahraini volleyball and handball teams kick off their participation in the Gulf Youth Games. The volleyball team faces Kuwait at 2:00 PM, Bahrain time, at the Al-Nasr Club hall in Dubai, while the handball team confronts Saudi Arabia at the same time at the Al-Bataeh Club in Sharjah. Both teams, having trained together briefly, aim to compete honorably and secure top results in hopes of clinching the gold medal under the tournament's format where the best performers win the title.
The chess team also starts today in the Blitz Chess - Singles matches, featuring Mahmoud Al-Moussawi, Marwan Al-Binali, and Maram Al-Moussawi, with events beginning at 4:00 PM at the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club.
Continued Competitions in Sailing and Badminton
The sailing team continues its efforts for the second consecutive day at the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club after a strong start yesterday. Similarly, the badminton team competes in the second round of singles and mixed doubles at the Zayed Sports Complex in Sharjah, aiming to advance to the final rounds, which extend until next Monday.
Warm Welcome for Returning Jiu-Jitsu Team
The Bahrain Olympic Committee organized a reception for the returning jiu-jitsu team, which won three medals at the games, including two silvers and one bronze. The athletes were greeted warmly at the airport by the Director of Sports Federations, Hisham Al Balushi, and Public Relations Specialist, Khaled Mohammed Haji. Youssef Mercer clinched silver in the under-56 kg category for under-16s, Sayed Adnan Sharaf matched this in the under-18 category, and Ahmed Al-Banna brought home a bronze in the 62 kg category for under-18s.
