In a remarkable achievement for her sports career, Her Excellency Dr Hessa bint Khalid Al Khalifa, board member of the Bahrain Olympic Committee and Chair of the Gender Equality in Sports Committee, has been awarded the Arab Sports Personality of the Year 2024 at the eighth edition of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Women Sports Awards.
The award ceremony took place on Wednesday, 13 November 2024, at the Emirates Palace Hotel in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, known as "Mother of the Emirates" - may Allah protect her, who is also the President of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation.
Her Excellency Shaikha Dr Hessa, bint Khalid Al Khalifa, received the Arab Sports Personality of the Year Award in recognition of her outstanding performance and contributions to the advancement of women's sports in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Arab region.
Upon receiving the award, Her Excellency Shaikha Dr Hessa expressed her great pride in this award, one of the most distinguished awards at the national level due to its role in appreciating and encouraging women's sports competencies across various sectors. She extended her gratitude to Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, "Mother of the Emirates" - may Allah protect her - for her support and dedication to women's sports in the UAE and the Arab region.
Her Excellency also emphasised that this award reflects the unwavering support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, may Allah protect him and preserve him, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may Allah protect him, to the sports movement in general and women's sports in particular.
She noted that the recognition is also a testament to the crucial role played by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabika bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, His Majesty the King’s wife and President of the Supreme Council for Women, in supporting Bahraini women across various fields.
She also acknowledged the commitment and interest of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs, and His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, for their efforts in promoting and encouraging Bahraini women in the sports field. She expressed happiness at this recognition, which she views as an honour for every female athlete in Bahrain.
