"Firefighting and Public Safety Basics" Seminar for Volunteers

A seminar on the basics of firefighting and public safety was held last night for volunteers from the Ministry of Education as part of the preparations for the International School Games (Bahrain 2024), hosted by the Kingdom from October 23 to 31. The seminar covered a wide range of essential topics aimed at raising public safety awareness.

The seminar saw a notable turnout of volunteers and addressed several key points, most prominently the fire triangle, which outlines the three fundamental elements of fire: heat, oxygen, and fuel. It explained how interrupting one of these components can extinguish a fire. The seminar also introduced the different types of fire extinguishers, their appropriate uses, and the importance of selecting the right extinguisher for each fire type.

Additionally, fires were classified according to the materials involved, with an emphasis on fire causes and prevention methods. The seminar highlighted the necessity of clear and safe exit routes in buildings and the importance of regular inspection of protection systems and fire extinguishers.

At the conclusion of the lecture, the focus shifted to the significance of having emergency maps in buildings and how to utilise them for swift and safe evacuation procedures.

The volunteers were highly engaged, asking numerous questions and demonstrating a keen interest in correctly using extinguishers and responding to emergencies. They confirmed that the knowledge gained would enhance their ability to handle emergency situations.

The seminar successfully met its objectives, equipping volunteers with essential knowledge about firefighting and public safety and showcasing their readiness to apply these skills both during the tournament and in their daily lives and volunteer efforts.
