
The Board of Trustees of the GCC Sports Arbitration Authority has officially appointed Counselor Dr Mohammed Majbil as its Executive Director, marking a significant step in enhancing sports dispute resolution in the Gulf region.
On this occasion, Dr Majbil expressed his deep appreciation to the Bahrain Olympic Committee, under the leadership of His Highness Shaikh Khaled bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of the General Sports Authority, for nominating him for this esteemed position. He also extended his gratitude to the Board of Trustees for their trust and confidence, viewing this appointment as a substantial responsibility in reinforcing the Authority’s mission in the coming period.
Dr Majbil emphasised that this appointment is both an honour and a responsibility, reaffirming his commitment to leveraging his expertise in sports arbitration to implement international best practices. His primary goal is to ensure the swift and effective resolution of sports disputes through arbitration and mediation, contributing to a Gulf sports landscape rooted in integrity, transparency, and fair play. He looks forward to working closely with Olympic committees and regional sports institutions to establish a pioneering model for sports dispute resolution.
Under the Authority’s bylaws, the Executive Director is responsible for:
- Proposing strategic plans and executive programmes for review by the Board of Trustees.
- Implementing and overseeing approved policies.
- Providing legal and procedural support to the Authority.
- Representing the Authority in external relations and legal matters.
- Preparing the annual budget and financial statements for approval.
- Recommending amendments to statutes, regulations, and operational decisions.
- Developing administrative and financial regulations and procedural rules for arbitration and mediation.
The GCC Sports Arbitration Authority was established as a pioneering initiative by His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports. With the endorsement of the Council of Presidents of the Gulf Olympic Committees, the Authority was officially launched in 2019, with the Kingdom of Bahrain designated as its headquarters. This initiative reinforces Bahrain’s leadership in sports governance and dispute resolution, further solidifying its role as a key hub for sports development across the Gulf region.
