Dr Iman Haji: Comprehensive Medical Plan and Strong Government Collaboration

Dr Iman Haji, Chair of the Medical Committee for the International School Sports Games (Bahrain 2024), scheduled from 23 to 31 October under the royal patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, emphasised the committee’s responsibility in providing medical care for all participants and attendees. She highlighted the importance of preventing sports injuries and promoting healthy practices among adolescents and youth.

She stated, "We have developed a comprehensive medical plan, which includes on-site clinics, mobile ambulance units, and ambulances. " She added that there has been coordination with government health bodies, such as hospitals and primary care centres, to ensure the availability of medical personnel. Moreover, there is a collaboration with the National Ambulance to enhance emergency medical teams.

“We will address all medical cases according to globally recognised protocols, ensuring everyone’s safety,” Dr Haji explained. Medical teams will be at all event venues to provide immediate support for emergencies.

In a move to involve students, Dr Haji mentioned that around 100 students have been trained in first aid to join the medical teams as volunteers during the events. This initiative is intended to instil teamwork values among youth and integrate the target group in medical service provision alongside professional medical teams.

She stressed that Bahrain is committed to providing comprehensive healthcare at all events and aims to sustain these services beyond the games by incorporating first aid skills into the community.

“We seek to establish a strong health culture among youth, contributing to enhanced public health and preventive care in Bahrain,” she added.

Dr Haji urged all participants and attendees to adhere to health and safety guidelines during the events to ensure the success of the games and achieve their intended goals, expressing gratitude to the working team and medical staff from various organisations.
