Crowning Champions in Sailing, Cricket, and Cycling on Day Four of the 6th School Games

The 6th School Games continued on the fourth day, concluding several key competitions, including cricket, cycling, karate, and sailing. Organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee, the tournament aims to develop the Kingdom’s sports sector by identifying and nurturing emerging talents, keeping pace with the significant growth and support for Bahraini youth from the nation’s leadership.

The intense competition, which features schools across Bahrain, has seen impressive performances in various sports as athletes competed for top honours. Notably, the cycling event for girls saw Clara Marsich from Chris School secure first place, with Catherine Muninga from the British School taking second place.

In the preparatory boys’ category, Sayed Abdullah Ali of Aali School claimed first, Thamer Aqeel from Zallaq Preparatory School took second, and Hassan Ali from Al Mithaq National School placed third. Other notable performances included Laith Mohammed from Isa Town School in fourth, Abdullah Khalid from Al Falah School in fifth, Issa Saleh from Zallaq School in sixth, and Mohammed Ali from Hamad Town School, who also placed sixth.

In the secondary school boys’ cycling event, the results were as follows: Hassan Aqeel from Sheikh Isa bin Ali School claimed first place, Mohammed Hassan from Sheikh Abdullah bin Isa School came second, and Amer Saleh from Al Fateh School secured third. Other positions included Hamoud Awad from Al Fateh School in fourth, Nasser Khaled from Nasser Rehabilitation Center in fifth, Ahmed Isa from Ibn Sina School tied for sixth, Mahdi Hassan from Sheikh Abdullah bin Isa School in seventh, Ali Ahmed from the British School in eighth, Abdulaziz Saleh from Al Fateh School in ninth, and Ali Sabry from Ahmed Al Omran School rounding out the top ten in tenth place.

This local tournament is part of Bahrain’s lead-up to hosting the largest-ever International School Games (Bahrain 2024), which will see around 5,000 students from 80 countries compete in 25 sports from October 23-31. The 6th School Games includes 19 sports, such as basketball, handball, beach volleyball, athletics, swimming, fencing, tennis, table tennis, karate, chess, badminton, taekwondo, judo, boxing, gymnastics, cycling, cricket, padel, and sailing.

Various venues across Bahrain host these competitions, including Umm Al Hassam Hall for basketball and handball and Isa Sports City for beach volleyball, athletics, table tennis, chess, badminton, taekwondo, judo, and cricket. In contrast, Khalifa City hosts swimming, and Umm Al Hassam also holds fencing. Tennis occurs at the Polytechnic University courts, gymnastics at Sanad Gymnastics Hall, cycling at Al Jazeera Beach, padel at the Padel Hall, and sailing at Al Jazaer Beach.
