Bahrain’s Handball Team Wins Silver, Boxing Team Secures 23 Medals in Gymnasiade 2024

The Bahraini teams have brought Bahrain’s total medal count to an impressive 66, with 13 gold, 21 silver, and 32 bronze medals in the International School Games (Bahrain 2024), hosted by the Kingdom from October 23 to 30 under the royal patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. The latest additions include a silver medal won by Bahrain’s handball team (1) after a close final against France, while the Bahraini school boxing team celebrated a remarkable 23-medal achievement.

 

23 Medals in Boxing

At the close of the boxing competitions held at Al-Ahli Club Hall in Zinj, the Bahraini Boxing Team claimed a total of 23 medals, showcasing exceptional talent in a field featuring international school boxing champions. The medals included 3 gold, 8 silver, and 12 bronze.

In the first level, Amanullah Sahak won a gold medal, with silver medals going to Joel JR Rosas, Cheryl Rosas, Rawan Faqih, and John Michel. Bronze medals were awarded to Mohammed Amin, James Terrence, Cecilia Shaheen, and Evan Liban, contributing significantly to Bahrain’s tally.

 

In the second level, Mohammed Sahek and Harley Jake earned gold medals, while Sofia Musa, Nikkilan Model, Abdulrahman Soman, and Ever Joy added four silver medals. Bronze medals were won by Laila Abdullah, Anas Issa, Fawaz Hazem, Zaid Al-Badri, Ibrahim Al-Ajmi, Yousef Bouzqro, Sherwin Villanueva, and Argie Reyes, further enriching Bahrain’s standing at the international school level.


Bahrain Team (1) Secures Silver in Handball at Gymnasiade 2024

Bahrain Handball Team (1) earned the silver medal, placing second in the handball competition after a spirited final match against France, held on Wednesday evening at the Bahrain Handball Federation Hall in the Umm Al Hassam Halls Complex.

 

The match concluded with a 29-21 victory for the French team, witnessed by an enthusiastic crowd that supported the Bahraini team throughout. The closely contested first half ended with France leading by just two goals, at 10-8.

 

Despite Bahrain’s impressive performance, France managed to assert control in the second half, securing the gold medal. Bahrain’s team, however, received widespread appreciation for their outstanding display and their journey to the final, competing fiercely against one of the tournament’s top teams.

 

In the third-place match, Saudi Arabia claimed the bronze, dominating Bulgaria with a decisive 47-29 win. The Saudi team showcased consistent control and a powerful performance throughout both halves.

In the girls' competition, Romania triumphed over France with a narrow 26-25 victory in a match marked by intense competition until the final moments, securing the gold. Ukraine took third place with a 24-14 win over Iran, adding a strong finish to the girls' events.

 

Additionally, Bahrain Team (2) achieved fifth place overall, following a well-earned 35-27 victory over the Boys team, highlighting the growth of school handball in Bahrain and the promise of its young athletes.

This thoughtful initiative reflected the Macedonian delegation’s gratitude for the hotel team’s efforts to ensure their comfort and meet their needs.

To mark their thanks, the North Macedonian delegation presented souvenirs to the housing committee members, commending the warm hospitality and welcoming atmosphere they experienced. They highlighted the friendly relations between North Macedonia and Bahrain, which were evident through this mutual appreciation.

Bahraini Teams Finish Seventh in Basketball and Ninth in Volleyball at Gymnasiade 2024

The Bahraini (2) Basketball Team (3x3) concluded its run in the Gymnasiade 2024 with a seventh-place finish. The team, featuring talented players Mohammed Khalil, Mohammed Faisal, Hussein Al-Samahiji, and Khalil Al-Khan, advanced to the quarter-finals after a hard-fought 19-16 victory over Jordan in the round of 16.

In the quarter-finals, Bahrain faced a strong Italian team, ultimately exiting the competition after a 16-9 loss. In the final, Brazil narrowly claimed the gold medal over Italy with an 18-17 win, while Slovenia won the girls’ gold by defeating Nigeria 16-14.

 

Bahrain Beach Volleyball Secures Ninth Place

The Bahrain (1) boys’ beach volleyball team finished in ninth place, displaying notable skill and resilience throughout the tournament. The duo, Ali Sultan and Ali Yaqoub, ended their campaign with a 2-1 victory over Slovenia, with set scores of 21-18, 11-21, and 15-8. In the finals, Hungary (1) claimed the gold in the boys’ category with a straight-sets victory over Ukraine, while the U.S. girls’ team took gold by defeating Puerto Rico in two sets.

 

Table Tennis Campaign Concludes for Bahraini Players

Bahrain’s table tennis team wrapped up its participation after exiting in the round of 16. Player Mansour Majeed faced a challenging match against China’s Chan Xuanyi, while Hussein Bousafwan was defeated by Romania’s Dragos Alexandru. Mohammed Al Ali also saw his journey end after a match against England’s Isaac Frank Kingham in Hall B.
