Nine Medals Bring Bahrain’s Tally to 42 in the International School Games

Yesterday, Tuesday, the Bahraini teams added nine medals to Bahrain’s total in the International School Games (Bahrain 2024), hosted by the Kingdom under the royal patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Athletics secured four medals (one gold, two silver, and one bronze), taekwondo contributed three (one gold and two bronze), and the Paralympic Games brought in two medals (one silver and one bronze). Bahrain’s overall count has now reached 42 medals (10 gold, 12 silver, and 20 bronze).

Four Medals in Athletics

The Bahrain School Athletics Team concluded its participation with outstanding achievements, as male and female runners delivered an honorable performance at the Bahrain National Stadium in Isa Sports City, further elevating Bahrain’s medal count.

In the girls’ medley relay, the team—featuring Naima Naomi, Rehana Garbohat, Aisha Bess, and Sofiane Hasmo—secured the gold medal, finishing in 2:09.89.

In the boys' 200m race, runner Alaa Samuel captured the silver medal, completing the race in 21.43 seconds, following closely behind the Hungarian gold medalist. In the girls' 200m race, Aisha Abdullah earned bronze with a time of 23.82 seconds, finishing behind competitors from the UAE and Nigeria.

The Bahraini team also performed exceptionally in the 4x100m relay, claiming the silver medal with a time of 40.97. The team members, Othman Qamar, Alaa Sami, Abbas Abu Bakr, and Rashid Talib, displayed strong coordination that contributed to their success.

In the Paralympic athletics competitions, runner Ahmed Nader distinguished himself in the 3000m T53 race, earning a silver medal and marking a notable achievement for Bahrain in this category.

 

Paralympic Badminton Bronze for Bahrain’s Zainab Ali Salman

Bahraini athlete Zainab Ali Salman clinched the bronze medal in the Paralympic Badminton Singles competition after an outstanding performance in Hall D at Isa Sports City. Throughout the tournament, Zainab displayed determination and exceptional skill, securing her place on the podium among some of the world’s top Paralympic badminton players.

Three Medals for Bahrain Taekwondo Team

The Bahrain Taekwondo Team wrapped up its participation in the Gymnasiade "Bahrain 2024" with strong results in the Taekwondo competitions held on Tuesday in Hall C at Isa Sports City. Bahraini competitor Yousef Khosrawi captured the gold medal in the under-73 kg category, defeating India’s Jaden Zomnawi in the final, marking a significant achievement for Bahrain.

In the under-55 kg category, Bahrain’s Hadi Ghuloum earned the bronze medal, with the top positions secured by athletes from Algeria and the UAE.

In the girls’ category, Wesal Al-Ammar took third place, winning the bronze medal, while Emirati Sarah Rashid claimed gold, followed by Algeria’s Maryam Al-Ahmar in second place.


Khalifa Sports City Hosts the Closing Ceremony of Gymnasiade 2024 Today

Today, Wednesday, marks the conclusion of the International School Games “Bahrain 2024,” held from October 23 to 31 with the Kingdom’s grand hosting of 5,515 students from 80 school unions across 71 countries. This edition has been recorded as the largest in the history of the Gymnasiade, fostering an atmosphere of enthusiasm and spirited competition.

Athletes from around the world competed in 26 different sports, including athletics, archery, badminton, 3x3 basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, chess, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, and judo. Additionally, the tournament featured events for athletes with special needs in athletics, badminton, and judo, reinforcing inclusivity in international sports.

The closing ceremony will take place at Khalifa Sports City Stadium, commencing at 5:30 p.m. with the arrival of the event sponsor, followed by the national anthem and the procession of flags representing each participating team. His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Organizing the Games, will deliver the official closing speech. The evening will continue with a series of artistic performances.

This landmark event has offered thousands of young athletes the opportunity to experience diverse cultures. It competes with high sportsmanship, underscoring Bahrain’s commitment to advancing international school sports and fostering meaningful interaction among youth from various nations.


Bahrain (1) and France Secure Spots in Handball Final at Gymnasiade 2024

Bahrain (1) handball team has advanced to the final of the handball competition after a decisive 28-19 victory over Saudi Arabia in the semi-final held at the Bahrain Handball Federation Hall in the Halls Complex, Umm Al Hassam. Bahrain (1) is set to face France in today’s final at 15:00, aiming to capture the tournament title.

France reached the final by defeating Bulgaria 32-27, securing its spot alongside Bahrain. Meanwhile, the Saudi team will compete for third place against Bulgaria in a match scheduled for 11:00.

In another match, Bahrain (2) clinched fifth place in the overall standings, besting Benin with a score of 35-27.

In the girls’ division, the French school team earned its place in the final with a commanding 30-10 win over Iran. They will face Romania, who qualified after a 30-18 victory over Benin. The girls' final match is set for today at 13:00, while Iran and Benin will compete for third place at 9:00.


Bahrain Team (2) Aims for New Success in 3x3 Basketball at Gymnasiade 2024

Bahrain Team (2) is set to continue its impressive journey in the 3x3 basketball competition as the Gymnasiade 2024 reaches its conclusion today, Wednesday, at the Isa Town Sports Stadiums. In the round of 16, Bahrain will face the Jordanian team at 10:20 a.m., with high hopes of securing victory and advancing closer to a potential medal.

Bahrain Team (2) earned its place in the round of 16 after winning six out of seven matches. Their recent victories included a 17-4 win over Croatia, a 16-8 win over Bahrain (6), and a 15-3 victory against Nepal (4) in the matches held on Tuesday.

The boys’ round of 16 today also features other exciting matchups, with England taking on Saudi Arabia, France competing against Nigeria, Brazil facing Slovenia 2, the People’s Republic of China up against Algeria, Romania versus Chile 2, North Macedonia against Benin, and Chinese Taipei challenging Italy.

Following these matches, the competition will advance through the quarter-finals and semi-finals, culminating in the final match to crown the tournament champion.

In the girls’ division, final round matches will also take place today. The People’s Republic of China will meet Thailand, Benin will face Estonia, Nigeria will play against England, and Romania will compete with Italy. Additional matches include Slovenia 2 versus India, Slovenia 1 against Brazil, Ukraine versus Chinese Taipei, and France facing Uganda.


Bahraini Table Tennis Team Shines, Qualifies for Round of 16

The Bahrain table tennis team has made impressive strides toward the final rounds following standout performances in the singles competitions held on Tuesday in Hall B at Isa Sports City.

Mansour Majeed progressed to the quarter-finals after a hard-fought win against Bulgaria’s Vashev Presyan, with scores of 11-8, 9-11, 11-7, and 11-5. Majeed is set to face China’s Chan Xuanyi in a highly anticipated round of 16 match today, Wednesday.

In another strong showing, Hussein Bousafwan secured a victory in the round of 16 over North Macedonia’s Alexander Jakimovski with scores of 11-5, 8-11, 11-9, and 11-6. Bousafwan will now compete against Romania’s Dragos Alexandru in the quarter-finals.

Mohammed Al Ali advanced comfortably, achieving a commanding win with scores of 11-0, 11-0, and 11-0 in the round of 16. He will face England’s Isaac Frank Kingham in the quarter-finals, aiming to reach the semi-finals and add to Bahrain’s achievements.

The tournament concludes today, with Bahrain’s team hopeful of continuing their success and advancing to the final rounds.
