Taekwondo Champions Crowned, and Padel Quarterfinalists Determined on Day Two of the Sixth School Games

The Sixth School Games, organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee, ran from 23rd September to 3rd October. It continues to develop the sports sector and create an environment that attracts and nurtures young talent in Bahrain. The athletes showcased remarkable skills, especially in introducing new sports, adding excitement to the competitions.

 

Taekwondo competitions concluded yesterday, with boys and girls competing fiercely. Students from government and private schools performed impressively, which aligns with the tournament's purpose of uncovering young sports talents in various disciplines.

 

This local tournament serves as a prelude to the International School Games (Bahrain 2024), set to occur next month. The most significant event will be welcoming around 5,000 students from 80 countries competing in 25 sports. These competitions will be hosted across private schools, universities, and sports facilities in the Kingdom.

 

In padel competitions, the following boys’ teams advanced to the quarterfinals: Modern School (A), Modern School (B), Modern School (C), Bayan Bahrain School (A), Bayan Bahrain School (B), Al Noor International School, Abdul Rahman Kanoo School, and Brights International School. Brights International School and Shaikha Hessa Girls’ School will face off in the final for the girls' padel competition.

 

The tournament features 19 sports: basketball, handball, beach volleyball, athletics, swimming, fencing, tennis, table tennis, karate, chess, badminton, taekwondo, judo, boxing, gymnastics, cycling, cricket, padel, and sailing.

 

In yesterday's handball competitions, Sheikh Isa Bin Ali School defeated Hawar School with a score of 48-14, showcasing impressive skill and game control.

 

The tournament is being held across multiple venues, including Umm Al Hassam Basketball Hall for basketball, Umm Al Hassam Handball Hall for handball, and Isa Sports City for beach volleyball, athletics, table tennis, chess, badminton, taekwondo, judo, and cricket. Khalifa City is hosting swimming, Umm Al Hassam is hosting fencing, tennis is being played at the Polytechnic University courts, gymnastics at Sanad Gymnastics Hall, cycling at Al Jazeera Beach, padel at the dedicated Padel Hall, and sailing at Al Jazair Beach.
