Bahraini judo player Askerbi Jerbekoff will make his Olympic debut in the under 81 kg weight class on August 30, 2024. Askerbi's participation marks the first appearance of Bahraini judo in the Olympic Games. He has prepared for this event through training camps in Spain and Sochi, Russia, under the supervision of national coach Khalid Nabil Al-Arifi.
Askerbi has a notable record in judo, making him a strong competitor. According to the knockout competition system, winning will advance him to the round of sixteen, while a loss would end his journey.
Al-Arifi Praises Historic Judo Qualification
Khalid Al-Arifi, Technical Director of the Bahrain Judo Federation, expressed his pride in the historic qualification of the Bahraini judo team for the Paris 2024 Olympics. He acknowledged the support of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Bahrain Combat Games Council and the Bahrain Judo Federation.
Al-Arifi stated, "Askerbi is ready, and his chances depend on the draw, which is crucial in a tournament with 28 competitors vying for three medals. The competition at the Olympics is unique, and each match has its dynamics. We aim to achieve a medal and hope for success."
