Bahrain’s Taekwondo, Wrestling, and Athletics Teams Secure 12 Medals, Raising Total to 33 at International School Gymnasiade
The Bahraini teams continue their remarkable success at the International School Gymnasiade (Bahrain 2024), hosted under the esteemed patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. With the latest achievements of 12 additional medals (3 gold, 4 silver, and 5 bronze), Bahrain’s total medal count has reached 33, comprising 8 gold, 9 silver, and 16 bronze.
In a standout performance, the Bahraini women’s athletics team captured gold in the 4x100m relay. The team—composed of Laila Kamal, Rehana Ghreweh, Aisha Bess, and Sofiane Hasmo—finished the race in an impressive 45.57 seconds, outperforming Hong Kong, which claimed silver with a time of 46.84 seconds, and China, which took bronze with a time of 47.38 seconds.
In the corresponding boys’ 4x100m relay, Bahrain’s team finished first. However, the final standings remain pending due to a protest submitted on the result.

The Bahrain Taekwondo team clinched seven medals—two gold, two silver, and three bronze—in yesterday’s competitions held at Hall C in Isa Sports City as part of the International School Games.
In an impressive show of skill, Asmahan Banat claimed the gold medal in the poomsae competition, outperforming competitors from the Emirates, Nepal, and India. Halima Al Busaidi added another gold to Bahrain’s tally in the under-68 kg girls’ coloured belt category.
On the boys' side, Fadi Al Dhawadi secured silver in the under-68 kg coloured belt category, while Juan Daniel took bronze in the under-68 kg black belt category. Abdul Rahman Al Qasimi also earned a bronze in the under-59 kg boys' coloured belt event.
In the poomsae segment, Thajba Al Busaidi won silver in the girls’ under-52 kg coloured belt category. Additionally, the Bahraini girls’ team earned a bronze medal in the poomsae team competition after an outstanding performance against strong teams from China, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia.
Bahrain Wrestling Team Secures Four Medals on First Day of Gymnasiade Wrestling Competitions
The Bahrain wrestling team delivered strong performances on the opening day of the wrestling competition at the Gymnasiade, hosted in the Bahrain Football Association Hall at Isa Sports City. Bahrain’s wrestlers achieved two silver and two bronze medals, marking a successful start for the team.
In the 65 kg category, Ramadan Abdulkadirov claimed the silver medal following an intense bout, while Arslan Mirzayev also earned silver in the 70 kg category. Bahrain’s success continued in the bronze medal rounds, with Tungay Verdiev securing bronze in the 55 kg weight class and Abdulmajid Abdulmajid taking bronze in the 60 kg category.

Minister of Education Attends Bahrain-Saudi Handball Match at Gymnasiade 2024
His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee for the 2024 Gymnasiade, attended the handball match between Bahrain’s school handball team (2) and their Saudi counterparts yesterday, Monday, at the close of the preliminary handball competition round in Bahrain.
Also present were His Excellency Dr. Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, CEO of the General Sports Authority and Vice Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee, Mr. Ali Isa Ishaqi, Chairman of the Executive Committee, and members of the Bahrain Handball Federation.
In his remarks, His Excellency the Minister congratulated Bahrain (1) on advancing to the semi-finals, commending the team’s impressive performance during the first round that positioned them among the top contenders. He also extended his best wishes to Bahrain (2) for the remaining competitions, applauding the team’s positive play throughout the tournament. Despite not reaching the semi-finals, he noted that the team’s skilful performance earned appreciation from all attendees, underscoring that their participation provided valuable experience for future competitions.

Bahraini teams competing in the 3x3 basketball tournament delivered notable performances in yesterday’s matches, held at the outdoor courts in Isa Sports City.
In Group 1, Bahrain Team (5) claimed an exciting 9-6 victory over Chile (1) following a hard-fought match, although they previously encountered a 2-13 loss to England.
In Group 2, Bahrain Team (3) played a close morning match against the Philippines, narrowly losing 11-12, followed by an evening match against Nigeria, ending in an 8-14 defeat.
In Group 4, Bahrain Team (2) earned a narrow 16-14 win over India, despite an earlier 7-11 loss to China. Bahrain Team (1) also impressed with consecutive victories, defeating Nepal 17-8 and then Bahrain (6) by a score of 10-4.
In the girls’ division, the Bahraini team faced challenging matches in Group 2, resulting in losses to Nigeria (2-21) and Slovenia (2) (3-17).

Bahrain's journey in the beach volleyball tournament concluded in the second round of the Gymnasiade 2024, held on the outdoor courts at Isa Sports City. The Bahraini team (1), represented by Ali Sultan and Ali Yaqoub, faced a narrow defeat to Chile (2) in a thrilling three-set match.
The opening set saw a close battle, with Chile edging out Bahrain at 23-21. Bahrain rallied in the second set, securing a win with a score of 21-17. However, in the decisive third set, the Chilean team regained control, winning with a six-point lead at 15-9 to close out the match.
In another second-round match, Bahrain team (5), comprising Mohammed Haruna and Abbas Ihsan, put up a strong effort but fell to Croatia in straight sets, both ending at 21-18. Despite their determined performances, both Bahraini teams exited the tournament.

Today, Tuesday, Bahrain (1) takes on Saudi Arabia in a highly anticipated semi-final handball clash at the "Bahrain 2024" Gymnasiade. The match, scheduled for 17:30 at the Handball Federation Hall in the Halls Complex, Umm Al Hassam, promises an exciting Gulf rivalry as both teams vie for a place in the final.

The first half was closely contested, ending 11-10 in Saudi Arabia’s favour. However, Saudi’s stronger second-half play allowed them to extend their lead to eight points, ultimately sealing Bahrain (2)’s exit.
Meanwhile, Bulgaria secured its semi-final spot by defeating Benin 25-23 and will now go head-to-head with France in what is expected to be a fiercely competitive match.
In the girls' handball competitions, Iran defeated Ukraine 24-17, and France triumphed over Benin with a score of 36-20. The girls’ semi-finals take place today, with France meeting Iran at 9:00 a.m., followed by Romania against Benin at 10:30 a.m.

The Bahrain badminton team delivered strong performances in Monday’s competitions at the "Bahrain 2024" Gymnasiade, held in Hall D at Isa Sports City.
In the boys' singles category, Nasser Al-Nakhas stood out with an impressive victory over Emirati player Khalifa Al-Mazrouei, winning 21-4, 21-6. Meanwhile, Barani Bala faced a challenging match, narrowly losing to the Czech player Marek Kassa.
The girls' singles presented tough challenges for Bahrain, as Sara Amini and Noor Hassan were defeated by competitors from the Czech Republic and India, respectively.
In the mixed doubles category, the duo of Sripamini Sudheeran and Alin Bejosh celebrated a victory over the Indian team with a score of 21-18, 21-12. Another Bahraini duo, Nasser Al-Nakhas and Noor Hassan, also triumphed by defeating the UAE team.
In the girls' doubles, Adwiya and Durra Al-Khabbaz shone with a hard-fought win against the UAE team, concluding their match 21-18, 20-22, 21-18.
