?Bahrain’s national weightlifting teams claimed a whopping 31 medals at the recently-concluded Afro-Asia Weightlifting Championships held in Amman, in Jordan.
The nationals’ medals haul includes six gold, six silver and 19 bronze. They were welcomed on return by high-ranking sports officials, headed by Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar and Bahrain Weightlifting Association president Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa.
Askar congratulated members of the team and conveyed the greetings of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the king for charity works and youth affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC president, and his best wishes for them in future competitions.
The BOC general secretary commended the performance of the athletes in this major regional championship and also praised the efforts of the delegation members who played a major part in the achievement.
On his part, Shaikh Abdulla shared the same thoughts as he noted the impressive results of the team in the competition, which reflect their distinguished abilities and skills to compete on a high level.
Shaikh Abdulla asserted his continued backing to the national weightlifting team in the future and would spare no efforts to offer all means of support in order ensure the continuity of these achievements.
