?THE Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) honoured its achievers in different sporting events held earlier this year with a total sum of BD8,100 cash award.
Members of the weightlifting and bodybuilding teams received their prizes following their impressive results at the Asian Bodybuilding Championship and the Arab Weightlifting Championship.
The initiatives came in line with the guidance of the BOC Board of Directors, which is under president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, in an attempt to boost the Bahrain athletes’ morale and encourage them to continue their outstanding achievements in future competitions.
Honorees included Ali Abbas, silver medalist at the Asian Championship held in Kazakhstan in May, as well as silver medal winner Nassrulla Al Sayed Hashim and bronze medalist Arafat Yaqoub, all in the same event.
The administrative and technical teams include Bassim Al Junaid, manager Tareq Ali Omar and physiotherapist Dr Maryam Al Buraiq.
Among other honorees was Salman Al Kindi, the Bahrain weightlifting champions, who took all three gold medals in the junior section at the Arab Championship in Doha in May.
The weightlifting delegation to Doha also comprised delegation head Ali Abdulla and national team coach Ebrahim Jaffer.
On this occasion, President of the Bahrain Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Federation Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa expressed thanks and appreciation to the Bahrain Olympic Committee for this generous gesture, which came much to the relief of both teams.
On his part, acting general secretary of the BOC Abdulrahman Askar lauded the achievements of the federation, stressing that these results underline their remarkable approach and noted that the committee is proud to have such talent athletes who are able to compete at an international level.
