?Members of Bahrain’s national cross country team were given a warm welcome on return from Tunisia yesterday (Wednesday) following their impressive first-place finish at the Arab Championship held recently.
Bahrain topped the week-long event winning 11 medals in total, including 2 gold, 3 bronze and 3 silver in the singles events and 3 in the team category.
Leading hih-ranking sports officials at Bahrain International Airport was Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, who congratulated the team on their well-earned victory.
Askar said the achievement reflects the Kingdom’s leadership’s support to Bahraini sports movement, as part of a series of accomplishments at various levels.
Askar expressed appreciation to members of the team, lauding their high morale spirits and loyalty in achieving such spectacular feat at the pan-Arab level, citing the role of the technical and administrative crews.
He commended the support and directives of His Majesty the King Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council of Youth and Sports chairman and BOC president  Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa to the team regarding the paving of optimum atmospheres to achieve this great Arab achievement.
On his part, Bahrain Athletics Association (BAA) vice-president Mohammed Jalal highly commended the key role of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman and BAA president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa in providing the plans and programmes that contributed to achieving the feats in the sport.
Jalal pointed out that this contributed in consolidating Bahrain’s position in the world map of athletics as the kingdom attained the top position in the cross-country championship which doubles the space of achievement in Arab championships.
