Bahrain’s special needs athletics team were treated to a warm welcome on return from Dubai after winning six medals in total at the 8th Fazza IPC Athletics Championship held recently.
High-ranking sports officials, led by Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, congratulated members of the team at Bahrain International airport on winning one gold, two silver and three bronze medals.
Askar conveyed the congratulations and greetings of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman and BOC President to the team.
He also expressed the congratulations and best wishes of Supreme Council general secretary and BOC vice-president Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa to the team
More than 600 athletes from 49 countries competed at the eighth edition of the championship, which was took place at Dubai Police Club Stadium from March 17th – 20th, and was held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, DSC.
The championship was the last qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event was organized and supervised by the Dubai Club for the Disabled with the support of their strategic partners, the Hamdan bin Mohammed Heritage Center, HHC, the International Paralympic Committee, the General Authority for Youth and Sports Welfare, the DSC, and the UAE Paralympic Committee.
