?Bahrain’s men’s under-20 volleyball team has finalized their preparations for the 17th Asian Championship, set to take place in the kingdom later this month.
The week-long continental competition is scheduled to take place from October 17 to 25 with 20 nations seeking the championship trophy. The participants were divided into four groups of four teams.
Coached by former volleyball star and present Al Nasser Club national tactician Reda Ali Bahrain were placed in Group ‘A’, which also features tournament Australia, Thailand, Maldives and Saudi Arabia.
Asia’s giants Japan will play in Group ‘B’ along with Taipei, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kuwait, while Group ‘C’ includes favourites China, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and New Zealand.
The fourth and final group has Iran, India, Turkmenistan, Hong Kong and Qatar. After the group stages round robin matches, the top two teams from each group will progress into the quarter-finals knock-out stage. 
Meanwhile, Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar visited the team’s recent training, held at the Khalifa Sports City Hall in Isa Town.
Askar met Bahrain Volleyball Association president Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, general secretary Feras Al Halwachi and team coach Reda Ali who briefed him on the team progress, in the presence of assistant coach Fuad Abdulwahed, team manager Abdulla Al Mahroos and physiotherapist Maamon Al Khateeb.
Askar said he was pleased with the overall progress made by the team ahead of this crucial international challenge. He urged the team to offer their best performance in the championship, and wished them success.
On his part, Al Halwachi commended the support given by the committee to the association, and stressed the keenness of the team to raise the Bahrain flag high in the upcoming event.
