High-ranking officials from across the world started in Bahrain ahead of the 56th ICHPER.SD Anniversary World Congress and Exposition, which gets underway tomorrow (Thursday).
With 24 hours remaining for the grand opening ceremony, eight prominent scientific figures gave touched down on the island to attend this three-day conference, scheduled to take place at the Crown Plaza Hotel.
They include International Council for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sports and Dance (ICHPER.SD) general secretary Dr Magda Al Shazly of Egypt, in addition to Dr Farooq Abdulwahab, Dr Ikhlas Mohammed, Dr Mona Abdulsaatar and Dr Amna Mahmood, all of Egypt.
Other officials who reached Bahrain yesterday were Iraqi Dr Abduljabbar Mohsin, Abbas Hassan Jawad and Jenan Nairooz. More than 100 scientists are due to arrive today, while honorary president of ICHPER Dr Dong Yang of the US is expected to touch down tomorrow.
Organized by the Bahrain Olympic Committee in cooperation with ICHPER.SD and the University of Bahrain, the congress will see over 250 participants from different nationalities, out of whom 130 will be presenting 80 research papers in Arabic and 50 in English.
Contributors will come from Egypt, Iraq, Tunisia, Libya, Algeria, Jordan, Turkey, Japan, Australia, the US, Trinidad and Tobago, Ghana, Romania, South Korea, China, Nigeria and host nation Bahrain.
Among those speaking at the conference is Korean-born American Dr. Dang Yang, honorary president of the International Council for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sports and Dance (ICHPER.SD), ICHPER.SD President Dr. Adel El Nashar, Li Li Ji of the US, Dr. Yashiro Hatano of Japan and Briton Simon Vumbaca.
Meanwhile, the organizing committee has finalized its arrangements yesterday ahead of the opening ceremony, set to tip off at 9am. The main conference hall at the Crowne Plaza Hotel has been prepared, while a special media centre is now operational and will be open for media representatives arriving from different countries to cover the event.
The opening ceremony will be held under the patronage of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
