?The Kingdom of Bahrain has wrapped up its preparations for the upcoming GCC Women’s Games, which takes place in Doha later this month.
The fifth edition of the games is scheduled to run from March 7 to 17 as Bahrain looks to win the event for a record third time, having won the 2013 and 2015 games held in Bahrain and Oman, respectively.
This year’s Women’s Games will feature 13 sports in total – handball, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, taekwondo, shooting, athletics for people with disabilities, chess, fencing, bowling, tennis, athletics and equestrian.
Teams like athletics, bowling, shooting and taekwondo will all be spearheading the nation at the most prestigious women’s sports competition in the Gulf region.
Their most recent training sessions were witnessed by Bahrain delegation head Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa as well as other senior delegation officials.
Shaikha Hayat, the Council for Youth and Sports Deputy General Secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) board member and Women’s Sport Committee chairwoman, met members of the teams and was acknowledged on their preparations prior to the games.
Shaikha Hayat showed relief for the smoothness of the ongoing training programme and stressed her willingness to offer all means of support for the teams to ensure best results at this regional challenge.
Shaikha Hayat had earlier visited the basketball, handball, volleyball, fencing and table tennis teams in an initiative to motivate the players and boost their confidence ahead of the games.
