?Bahrain Olympic Committee’s Sports Training and Development Section head Nabeel Taha was recently awarded a certificate in ‘Positive Psychology ‘ from the University of Ottawa in Canada.
Taha also received a second certificate to become director of the National Coaching Certification Programme in Bahrain. This certificate was presented to him by Coaching Association of Canada’s International programmes director Marc Schryburt.
Taha said he was pleased and honored for this new designation, which he described as a ‘Reward’ to the hard working efforts exerted over the past years along with his colleagues at the Sports Training and Development Section.
He also attributed it to the continued support and directives of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa to the section.
Taha noted that Positive Psychology is one of the most prominent certificates in this field, noting that it is the scientific study of the strengths and virtues that enable individuals and communities to thrive.
“The field is founded on the belief that people want to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives, to cultivate what is best within themselves, and to enhance their experiences of love, work, and play,” said Taha.
Taha said the British Government has signed an agreement with psychologists Dr Martin Seligman in education settings to achieve the aspired objectives.
“Dr Martin is one of the most widely know psychologists of our time and has spent over 40 years working on the issues of depression, optimism and pessimism,” added Taha.
“Sports competition is a combination of physical exertion, psychological pressure, high concentration, physical preparation and skills, as positive psychology raises the morale of the players and helps higher mental focus as the psychological factor is an important part of the preparation process for any team,” said Taha.
