?A committee, tasked at setting up safety conditions and criteria at sports gyms in Bahrain to protect them from sudden deaths and injuries, had its first meeting on Saturday at Seef.
Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar chaired the maiden meeting of the panel, in which the initial conditions and criteria of safety and securing were discussed.
Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, HM the King’s Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports President and Bahrain Olympic Committee President, has ordered probe into the recent tragic deaths at a gym in the Capital Governorate.
Instructions were given to several authorities, including ministry of health, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs, Ministry of Labor and Social Development, General Directorate of Civil Defense, Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Center for Cardiology, to enhance supervision at the gyms to monitor the usage of food supplements and drugs.
The meeting was also attended by BOC sports affairs executive director Abduljalil Asad, legal counselor Salah Khedr, National Sports Medicine Centre director Dr Khalid Al Shaikh, Bahrain Weightlifting Association vice-president Sultan Al Ghanem, BOC Arab and International Relations director Fajer Jassim, projects director Lounes Madene and training and development specialist Ahmed Hafed.
