?A multi-event Sports Programme got underway on Wednesday at Dohat Arad walkway in Muharraq in the presence of hundreds of citizens and expats.
It’s organized by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) as part of its annual plan to hold a string of sporting and social activities for the public.
The opening event of the programme was inaugurated by Supreme Council for Youth and Sports deputy general secretary and BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar.
Askar, along with Northern Governor Ali Al Asfoor, Muharraq deputy governor Zuhair Al Absi, Hasan Al Madani, Capital deputy governor Hasan Al Madani and other key authorities, led a large group of people in training sessions, conducted by a team of experienced training instructors.
Representatives of the Ministry of Health were also present at a special booth to promote a healthy lifestyle, while Al Hilal Hospital contributed with free medical check-ups for the public.
Commenting on this occasion, Askar said he was pleased for the number of participants at the first event of the programme, which is in compliance to the directives of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and committee President.
Askar noted that the programme is one of the BOC’s plans to involve all segments of the Bahrain society in various sports activities and spread the concept of adopting a healthy lifestyle among the community.
The next activity on the programme calendar will take place at Al Fateh Corniche in Manama, Al Istiqlal Walkway in Sanad, Grand Khalifa Park in Riffa, Budaiya Walkway and A’ali Walkway on Saturday from 4pm and 6pm, where training instructors will be available to guide the participants in training sessions.
Some of these trainers are Bade Sultan, Salha Al Rumaihi, Mohammed Bakhsh, Layla Al Ali, Fadi Humaidan, Mohammed Al Sharqawi and Murtada Karashi.
