The first gathering of the Bahrain Olympic Committee’s (BOC) weekly open Ramadan Majlis held discussions on the special needs athletes’ requirements.
Staged at the committee premises in Seef, the maiden meeting of this first-of-its-kind event was at the invitation of BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, who welcomed representatives of sports associations, administrators, referees, athletes and media.
This Majlis is part of the committee’s programmes launched as per the directives of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and BOC President, aimed to promote sports in general and strengthen ties with the Bahrain sports society.
Among high-ranking sports officials attending the first meeting were BOC board members Abdulhakim Al Shino and Ali Eshaqi, MP Ali Bufarsan Bahrain Football Association president Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, ex-Bahrain and Arab volleyball associations president Mohammed Hamada and Al Ahli Club president Talal Kanoo.
They discussed some of the most significant sports subjects, including certain needs of Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation to carry out their future programmes.
The attendees also had talks on the most recent incident at the Euro 2016 Championship when packs of Russian and English football fans clashed in the French city of Marseille in a third straight day of battles, resulting in some serious injuries sustained for 31 people.
