?A comprehensive plan is about to be carried out at the National Sports Medicine Centre (NSMC) aimed at developing its facilities and ensuring quality services, said centre director Dr Khalid Al Shaikh.
The plan will be implemented in different stages and includes the construction of specialist clinics, which is the first phase of the project. These clinics will have different specialties such as nutrition and sports injuries by visiting doctors to benefit from their expertise.
“The Bahrain Olympic Committee will be signing a number of agreements with some of the most advanced European-based hospitals that are specialized in sports injuries,” said Al Shaikh while referring to the second phase of the project.
Al Shaikh noted that this approach would certainly contribute to build a strong partnership between the committee and overseas hospitals in an attempt to develop the National Sports Medicine Centre programmes and promote its quality services provided to national team athletes and to the public alike.
As for the third and concluding phase, the centre is planned to become a general hospital specialized in sports medicine, which is in line with the aspirations of the Bahrain Olympic Committee for this institution to emerge as a sports academy located at Isa Town Sports City.
This plan is in line with the directives of His Majesty the King Representative for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
