Action in the 2016 Olympic Day will resume today (Saturday) with the third running race organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee in cooperation with the Southern Governorate.
Today’s race, which tips off at 4.15pm, will be at the Awali walkway opposite Riffa Views where five age category race are taking place. Kicking off the activities will be an 800m race, open for 6 to 8 years boys and girls children.
The remaining races are 1km for those aged between 9 and 11 years, 1,2km for 12 to 14 years and 3km, which is open for participants who are aged 15 years and above.
Registration has already been announced online at ems.bahrainroadrunners.com and also at the race venue.
The day will also feature a swimming competition organized in cooperation with the Bahrain Swimming Association and taking place at Khalifa Sports City between 9am and 12 noon.
In a statement issued by the BOC, general secretary Abdulrahman Askar said he is pleased for the positive interactive from Bahrain’s all four governorates in being part of the Olympic Day festivities this year.
Askar noted that these events have proven to be successful and lived to their aspirations as it achieved the objectives of promoting the bole Olympic values among national and expatriate athletes in Bahrain.
This year’s Olympic Day, featuring five races in total for the first time over two weeks period, got underway on May 14 with the Northern Governorate hosting the inaugural race as well as other competitions and entertaining activities for the community at Budaiya Coast Part.
The Capital Governorate then organized the second race of the festivities on May 17 in Tubli.
The event will then visit Muharraq Governorate on May 24 for the penultimate races, while the fifth and concluding races are scheduled for May 27 at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, where this year’s edition of the Olympic Day come to a close.
