?The second edition of the GCC Beach Games in Saudi Arabia will feature six sports in total, the Executive Office announced yesterday (March 3).
This decision was revealed following the 79th meeting of the Executive Office of GCC National Olympic Committees held in Kuwait, where they approved competition in football, handball, volleyball, swimming, rowing and sailing for the 12-day Games.
The Executive Office requested the Games organizing committee of the Games to prepare a detailed report on its preparations of the event, scheduled to take place in Dammam from October 17 to 28. The meeting was part of a three-day summit, in which several crucial points were highlighted.
Another significant issue discussed at the meeting was the formation of a committee, tasked at setting up an initial study for the first-ever Junior GCC Games.
Games director Ahmed Al Kamali of the UAE is heading the panel, which also includes a General Secretariat representative, and two from the National GCC Olympic Committees to prepare a report that will be reviewed at the next Executive Office meeting.
It was also decided to name a delegation from the Executive Office and the General Secretariat to visit Yemen to hold a number of meetings with officials from the Yemeni Olympic Committee as per their request to join the GCC sport action organization.
Similar meetings will be arranged with officials from Jordan and Morocco to discuss means of communication in the sports field.
Members of the Executive Office include Obaid Al Anezi of Kuwait, Abdulrahman Askar of Bahrain, Mohammed Al Kammali of the UAE, Mohammed Al Beshil of Saudi Arabia, Oman’s Taha bin Sulaiman Al Kashri and Mishal Al Khalifa of Qatar.
BOC acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar headed the Bahrain delegation to the meetings, which concluded yesterday.
Askar headed to Kuwait along with BOC sports advisor Abduljalil Asad, Information Technology director Nawaf Abdulrahman, BOC International Affairs executive coordinator Ahmed Al Qarainees and general secretary office secretary Mohammed Al Rashidi.
The summit started with the Coordination and Follow-up Committee meeting, which was chaired by Asad.
The committee also includes Adel bin Nikhi of Kuwait, Bader Al Mansoor of Saudi Arabia, Salem Al Masrori of Oman, Sultan bin Fares of the UAE and Qatar’s Tareq Al Abdulla.
This was followed by another meeting to discuss the possible ways of cooperation with the Kingdoms of Jordan and Morocco.
Meetings continued with the consultative meeting on the bylaws, followed by the GCC Sport Award committee meeting.
