?The UAE delegation of Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Award for Woman Athletes yesterday (Tuesday, October 14) concluded their maiden three-day visit to Bahrain to promote this annual award.
On the third and last day of the visit, delegation member Nada Al Shaibani made a three-hour presentation at the University of Bahrain hall in Sakhir, where she addressed representatives of the sports federations and the university on the award levels and objectives.
Al Shaibani highlighted the three levels of the award, the first of which is the individual level, which comprises five categories. They are excellent athlete woman, disabled woman, trainer woman, excellent media woman and excellent athlete woman manager.
The award’s second level is the foundations and unions, which has four categories, namely the excellent media work in woman sports, developing beginners, sponsorship and marketing, developing teams and effective participation. The third and last level is the Sports Personality of the Year award.
She also addressed the attendees on some of the main objectives of the award, which includes the women’s motivation to develop their capabilities and skills in various fields of sport to reach more achievements and attain excellence in creation.
It also aims to encourage women in general and women with disabilities to join different types of sports and to achieve excellence, superiority and leadership, creating a proper framework to support and develop the women’s sporting sector in the Arab region.
The presentation also focused on Arab women’s achievements in various fields of sports, and document such achievements in accordance with the international standards in such field.
It also highlighted the achievements of Arab women in the field of competitive sport, and encourages and motivating Arab women in the field of the scientific research on sports, to allow the impact of her success to reach beyond the horizons of sports excellence and creation.
General coordinator of the award Khawla Al Muhairi is heading the UAE delegation, which also has Nada Al Shaibani and Maryam Al Rifai.
Late on, the trio visited the General Organisation for Youth and Sports premises in Seef, where they met president of the organization Hisham bin Mohammed Al Jowder who was briefed on the award categories and objectives.
Being the world’s biggest award of its kind, the award offers individual winners including those with special needs, and corporate winners, a total purse of more than BD240,000 for its nine categories.
The idea of the award is supported by Chairperson of the General Women’s Union, Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak.
The award campaign in Bahrain was hosted by the Bahrain Olympic Committee, being headed by Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
