?Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) member and chairwoman of the Women’s Sports Committee Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa today (Jan. 29) heads for Sharjah to head supervising and follow up committee of the Second Arab Women’s Sports Tournament.
The tournament is scheduled to take place in Sharjah for the second successive time from February 2 to 12 with the participation from 14 clubs from all over the Arab region.
Accompanied by BOC International Affairs executive coordinator and delegation deputy head Mohammed Al Zayed, Shaikha Hayat will discuss a number of topics during the meeting, to be held tomorrow.
Some of the issues to be reviewed include the approval of the second supervising and follow up committee meeting held on December 21, in addition to presenting a report on the opening ceremony of the tournament, the selection of the discipline committee, reviewing the participation certificates, the medals and trophies, in addition to the technical meetings schedule.
The supervising and follow up committee also consists of Assistant General Secretary of the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees Saad Al Sufyani, Arab League Youth and Sports director Mohammed Slaih, Wejdan Al Dahkooni of UAE Olympic Committee, Khalid bin Hussain of UAE Youth and Sports Organisation, tournament director Nada Askar, players committee head Ali Omar and secretary Dr Bassil Al Shaer.
The organizing committee has received approvals from 14 Arab countries taking part in the second edition of the Arab Women’s Sports Tournament.
Participants in this 11-day event include Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the UAE, Yemen, Egypt, Morocco, Lebanon, Libya, Palestine, Sudan, Jordan and Iraq.
Bahrain is sending six clubs to compete in six different sporting disciplines in this tournament. They are volleyball, table tennis, shooting, fencing, shooting, basketball and athletics.
Muharraq is taking part in the basketball event, Al Ahli will spearhead Bahrain in the volleyball tournament,  Al Shabab Club is lined up for the athletics championship, Bahrain Club in table tennis, Bahrain Fencing Club in fencing while Bahrain Shooting Club will battle in the shooting event.
