?Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) board member and Women’s Sport Committee chairwoman Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa will head to Lousanne today (Wednesday) to attend the upcoming meeting of the Athletes’ Entourage Commission, which is under the International Olympic Committee.
In today’s meeting – to be chaired by committee chairman Sergey Bubka of Ukraine – a number of subjects will be brought up, such as discussion on anti-doping issues, results of athletes at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, and introducing new members of the committee.
Shaikha Hayat was one of those chosen as members of this commission, includes managers, agents, coaches, physical trainers, medical staff, scientists, sports organisations, sponsors, lawyers and any person promoting the athlete’s sporting career.
Some of the duties of the entourage is to act with due diligence and in the best interest of the athlete, short-term interests should not take precedence over a successful and balanced athletic career and a long-term partnership.
As for the athletes, it’s their responsibility to act responsibly, choosing their entourage members with care and with the exercise of due diligence and to use their best efforts to ensure that any contract is negotiated with fair conditions.
