?His Majesty the King Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa has decided stepped down as president of the committee, it was announced yesterday (Sunday).
During the annual board meeting of the BOC, Shaikh Nasser said the decision was made in order to devote himself to the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports.
Abdulrahman Askar, secretary general of the BOC for over five years, will also be departing the committee and has also been assigned to work full time as an assistant secretary general at the Supreme Council.
Askar will now leave his post to the incoming secretary general of the committee Mohammed Hassan Al Nusuf, as per decision issued by Shaikh Nasser recently.
A number of other subjects were brought up at the meeting, while recommendations were made in regards to crucial issues that made up the agenda of this annual top-notch conference.
Among leading topics discussed were extending the extending the term of the Board of Directors of the the Bahrain Equestrian and Endurance Federation, headed by Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa, and appointing a new Board of Directors of the Bahrain Sports Federation of Universities, headed by Dr. Shaikh Saqer Bin Salman Al Khalifa.
The BOC board also decided to keep the Bahrain Triathlon Federation board under the presidency of Abdulla Abdulsalam.
Other talking points included the a programme titled “Transactions”, that was launched to link sports federations electronically with the Bahrain Olympic Committee, and scrapping all paper transactions.
In addition, the “Torch” initiative was launched in an attempt to monitor various sporting events in the Kingdom, while the sports federations’ board were urged to activate women’s sports activities by having more official events that help women engage in a variety of sports.
