?Report on the second edition of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamada Al Khalifa Scientific Research Award in the field of sport was presented in Kuwait recently.
General secretary of the Bahrain Olympic Committee Abdulrahman Askar presented the report at the 13th joint meeting of the Executive Committee of the GCC National Olympic Committees’ Presidents and heads of the GCC Sports Games Committees.
Askar pointed out the importance of this award, which comes as part of a move towards scientific approach to develop sports movement in the country.
He emphasized the concerns of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa to the award, which has now evolved from being a local event to include participants from other Arab countries.
BOC sports advisor Abdul Jalil Assad then took over from where Askar left as he gave a wonderful visual presentation on the award bylaw, which was admired by the attendees.
Also during the meeting, a distribution of the new publications related to this award took place. The publication featured the award regulations and conditions.
The Executive Committee praised the effectiveness of the organizing committees, which is based in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and covers five sports.
They are football, bowling, sailing, cycling and sports for the disabled. The executive committee also noted the quick response of these committees with the decisions, specifically with regard to the preparation of the annual calendar program for 2015.
The meeting had addressed many issues that were included on the committee agenda, particularly the Regional Anti-Doping Organization programs, where Dr. Mohammed Saleh Al Qambaz, Chairman of the Saudi Doping Control Committee, spoke about the organization’s programs and projects, aimed at consolidating the principles of fair athletic competition.
