?Supreme Council for Youth and Sports second vice-chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee honorary president yesterday (Wednesday) congratulated Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa on obtaining the 2015 International Olympic Committee (IOC)’s Award for Women and Sports for Asia.
Shaikha Hayat is the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport member, member of the Board of Directors of BOC, Chairwoman of Women Sport Committee and President of the Bahrain Table Tennis Association.
Commenting after the awards ceremony held at the IOC premises in Lausanne, in Switzerland, Shaikh Isa said Shaikha Hayat’s winning this prestigious recognition is a clear evidence of her major efforts in bid to develop women’s sports in the kingdom of Bahrain and the Arab region.
Shaikh Isa noted that this victory was accomplished with the significant support of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabika bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women and chairman of the Supreme Council and president of BOC Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
“Shaikha Hayat is one of the pioneer women leaders in Asia and has a rich biography of achievements at all levels,” said Shaikh Isa, who also noted that Shaikha Hayat was one of the few who laid down the foundation of women’s sports in the GCC and the Arab region.
“She made significant contributions to promoting sports with her vast expertise in sport management, leading the Kingdom of Bahrain to a series of outstanding achievements”.
