Second School Mini Olympics set

The 2015 Schools Mini Olympics is all set to take place for the second successive year with more than 1,200 young athletes vying for top honors. The second edition of the Olympics will continue until April 30.

This year, there will be six competitions in total compared to the previous edition’s four events. They are football, volleyball, basketball, athletics, table tennis and swimming.
Athletes will come from 77 schools in total, including private schools like Sacred Heart, Al Naseem School, the British School, Indian School, AMA, Al Hekma International School, Shaikha Hessa Girls School and the Indian School.
The remaining 69 schools include 17 primary stage girls schools, 13 intermediate stage girls schools, 16 secondary stage girls schools, eight primary stage boys schools, eight intermediate stage boys schools and seven secondary stage boys schools.
Kicking off the Mini Olympics this year will be the football tournaments from 9am onwards. The boys tournament will be held at the Bahrain Football Association grounds in Riffa, while the girls matches will take place at Riffa Club Gym in Hunainiya.
The basketball tournaments will also commence today, with the boys matches to be staged at the Bahrain Basketball Association premises. The Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation gym will host the girls matches.
The 2015 School Mini Olympics is organized by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) in cooperation with the Education Ministry and the sports associations.
It is held under the patronage of His Majesty the King’s Personal Representative for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa on this occasion.
The Mini Olympics aims to spread and promote the values and principles of the Olympic among government and private schools in the Kingdom, and motivate them to practice sports activities and follow a healthy life style.
