?The new premises of the Bahrain Billiards and Snooker Federation was recently inaugurated in East Riffa at a special ceremony.
Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar cut the ribbon to declare the premises open, in the presence of high-ranking officials from the federation and the committee.
The new premises features high-tech facilities, including nine snooker and eight billiards tables, thus giving the federation the eligibility to host world-class championships.
Speaking on this occasion, Askar commenced the efforts of the recently-appointed BBSF board, and noted that the new premises will play a significant role in boosting billiards and snooker in Bahrain.
Askar noted that the committee, led by His Majesty the king advisor for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, has big faith in the BBSF board members and will offer full support in order to fulfil their aspirations and objectives.
Also during the ceremony, Askar gave the go-ahead for the BBSF/GPIC Qualification Championship, in which 54 players are taking part, to become the maiden event organized at the federation’s new location.
The championship provides valuable cash awards to the top winners, with the champion to receive BD800. Runners-up will get BD500, BD300 for third-placer, BD200 for fourth, while BD50 each will be given to those ranked fifth till eighth.
On his part, BBSF president Dr Saeed Al Yamani thanked Shaikh Nasser for his support to the federation and revealed his plans for the remaining of 2015, which was initially agreed upon by the BOC.
