?The Executive Committee and the GCC Sport Organising Committees increased the final subscriptions for GCC national sports committees, bringing down the curtain on the GCC Sport Summit yesterday (Nov. 11).Subscription for each sport association for team competitions has been raised to BD2,500, and BD1,500 for the individual sports.On the fourth and concluding day of this annual regional event, which was hosted by the Sheraton Hotel’s Al Taj Ballroom in Manama, the 12th joint Executive Committee and the GCC Sport Organising Committees meeting took place as both parties handled some of the most crucial subjects on their agenda.Representatives of the two committees also reviewed plans and budgets of the GCC Sport Organising Committee, joint action bylaws in the field of sport, GCC sports games bylaws and increasing the committee’s overall budget.BOC Sports Advisor Abduljalil Assad gave a presentation on the GCC Sport Organising Committee Award, which gives BD7,000 for the winning committee and BD3,000 for second-placers.Assad noted that each sport committee should submit the required reports on its programmes to the sport directorate of the GCC General Secretariat by January 31 every year, in order to include it as part of the award requirements.As for the GCC Sport and Environment Award, Qatari Olympic Committee representative Tareq Al Abdulla reviewed the amendments on the award, which include a BD3,000 increment, as well as expanding the parties taking part in the award to include the organizing committees, national federations and sports clubs in the GCC.Also during the meeting, Bahrain Olympic Committee’s Sports Training and Development Section head and international instructor Nabeel Taha gave a presentation on the sport management and coaching programmes delivered by the World Academy of Sport and the Canadian Coaching Association, which aim to develop sports cadres in Bahrain and the GCC in general.The GCC Sport Organising Committee includes Shaikha Naima Al Sabah of Kuwait (Women’s Committee), Shaikh Salem Al Qassmi (Fencing), Ahmed Al Raisi (Shooting), Mohammed Al Kammali (Athletics), Shaikh Hamid Bin Butti (Boxing), Abdulla Al Muhiri (Camels Racing), Dawood Al Hajri (Table Tennis), Hassan Abo Aish (Snooker) and Abdulaziz Al Battal (Squash), Shaikh Sultan Al Hosani (Handball) and Abdulhamid Al Masaud (Gymnastics).Other committee members are Taha Al Koshri (Swimming), Mohammed Al Sulaiti (Taekwondo), Noaman Al Hassan (Sailing), Mohammed Hobash (Basketball), Zayed Mubarak and Salman Al Mas (Weightlifting), Fuad Al Ruiwaie (Tennis), Shaikh Yousif Al Subah and Waleed Aman (Volleyball), Mirza Ahmed (Football), Abdulla Al Dossary (Bowling) and Jassim Mubarak (Disabled Sports).Chaired by Bahrain Olympic Committee acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, was also attended by representatives of the GCC Secretariat.They were assistant secretary general for Humanitarian and Environmental Affairs at the GCC General Secretariat Abdulla bin Oqla Al Hashim of Saudi Arabia, Abdulmajeed Al Saadi, Ahmed Al Hamidi, Ali Al Sindawi, Ahmed Al Jaber and Mohammed Al Marri.Meanwhile, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Second Vice-Chairman and BOC honorary president Shaikh Isa bin Rashid Al Khalifa visited the meeting venue and had talks with top-ranked GCC sports officials.The summit got underway last Friday with the coordination and follow-up committee meeting, followed by the consultative meeting on Saturday.These two sessions represented a prelude to the 78th meeting of the Executive Committee, as well as the 12th joint meeting of the Executive Committee and the GCC Sport Organising Committees.This regional summit is organized annually all over the GCC, as it highlights a number of key sport related issues in an attempt to develop sport in this part of the Arab world.
