?Ali Monfaredi’s most recent victory at the 2016 Asian Beach Games in Da Nang, in Vietnam, was lauded by high-ranking sports officials in Bahrain.
The 23-year-old promising fighter took the jiu jitsu’s 77kg gold medal on Monday, Bahrain’s maiden medal in the Games, which continues until October 4.
In a statement announced right after the victory, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar was all praise for Monfaredi’s win.
He described Monfaredi as a highly-qualified individual who is capable of playing under any condition and heavy stress.
Askar noted that the phone call received from Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and BOC President, was a big relief for the Bahraini athlete and is certainly a big motive for him in future competitions.
Askar added that the presence of Bahrain Bodybuilding Federation president Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa with the bodybuilders at the competition venue has lifted their spirits ahead of the competition today (Wednesday).
In the bodybuilding championship, Bahrain will be spearheaded by trio Ali Qassab (162kg), Jassim Marhoon (168kg) and Mohammed Rashid (+168kg).
The BOC general secretary commented on the beach handball team’s chances in the competition, saying that they are still capable of reaching the next round of the championship.
The handball team, meanwhile, shrugged off Pakistan’s defeat with a well-deserved 2-0 win over India yesterday (Tuesday). Bahrain dominated the game right from the start and took the first quarter 28-18. They then sealed the points winning the second quarter 29-20. Bahrain now face Qatar today at 12 noon (Bahrain time) in a must-win game to qualify for the next stage.
