?Bahrain’s national mixed marital arts (MMA) and cycling teams athletes made resounding impacts at their respective competitions recently.
Ruba Al Omari and Amal Al Fardan respectively won a gold and silver medal in the handbike race for athletes with disabilities at the Asian Cycling Championship in Bahrain last February, while Hussain Ayyad took the under-56kg bronze medal at the European Open Amateur MMA in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Both athletes’ achievements were highly noted during a visit to the Bahrain Olympic Committee premises in Seef yesterday (Wednesday).
Supreme Council for Youth and Sports deputy general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar welcomed the athletes and commended their outstanding results in their respective events.
He noted the remarkable performance and high spirit of both athletes during the competitions and wished them progress in future challenges.
On their part, Al Omari and Ayyad expressed pride for the results achieved in both championships and for the significant support they received from the Kingdom’s sports leadership, which played a major part in their achievements.
The reception was also attended by Bahrain Cycling Association president Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Bahrain Mixed Martial Federation president Khalid Al Khayyat, besides athletes and representatives of both federations.
