?The Interior Ministry Kickboxing team had an honorable finish at the 5th Arab Club Championship, which concluded in Amman, in Jordan recently.

Held at Al Hussain Boxing Arena from November 25 to 30, the championship saw the Bahraini team win five medals in total, including three gold and two bronze.

A total of 145 fighters from 21 clubs in seven Arab countries  – Egypt, Iraq, Libya, Sudan, Palestine, Bahrain and hosts Jordan competed in the six-day challenging event.

Bahrain’s first medal of the event was won by Fatima Jamal who clinched the women’s championship, beating host nation’s Yosra Abu Zaid in the final and guiding the kingdom to claim the women’s team event gold medal.

Ghasan Mohammed then gave Bahrain its third gold medal in the men’s 64-kg semi contact, while Mohammed Muthana (63kg) and Hussam Nasr Alddin (71kg) took a bronze medal each in the full contact and low kick categories, respectively.

The team, meanwhile, were given a special welcome on return by Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar and other high-ranking sports officials.

Askar conveyed the congratulations of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa to the team and commended their performance at the championship.

On his part, President of Public Security Sports Association, Colonel Khalid A Khayat expressed gratitude of the high level of the team.
Al Khayat attributed the achievement to the support of His Excellency Interior Minister, Lt-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa and Chief of Public Security, Major-General Tariq Al Hassan.
