?The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) held a special event to celebrate Isa bin Rashid Voluntary Work Award.
This year’s prize was awarded to the founding presidents and members at various sports associations, besides a group of national sports media representatives, in appreciation to their efforts.
Held at the Sofitel Hotel in Zallaq under the patronage Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the function was themed ‘Loyalty Night’.
Shaikh Nasser said this group of honoured pioneers have contributed to spreading the concept of sports voluntary work to set up a massive development in sports action.
Shaikh Nasser also noted the kingdom’s leadership keenness to honour all those administrators and media personnel who worked hard over the past years and laid down the foundation of sports in Bahrain.
Other high-ranking sports officials were also present, including Supreme Council for Youth and Sports vice-president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Supreme Council general secretary Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, BOC acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, president of sports associations and other invited guests.
Askar said the idea of the ceremony coincided with the 40th anniversary of the sports associations foundation as the BOC decided to dedicate this year’s edition of the award to honour the first board of directors of eight associations, all of which were founded in 1974.
Askar also revealed the committee’s decision to include officials from the media sector who spent more than 20 years in the field of sports.
Among honorees are former Bahrain Football Association president the Late Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and ex-members the Late Saif Al Musalam, the Late Hashim Al Sada, the Late Ahmed Al Shomeli and Abdulla Al Sheroogi.
Other sports personnel are former founding members of the volleyball, swimming, athletics, basketball, table tennis, handball, weightlifting and bodybuilding association.
Also during the ceremony, the organizing committee took this opportunity to launch the official website of the Bahrain Olympic Committee – www.boc.bh, providing committee news updates and detailed information about all national sports association.
