?Bahrain men’s national volleyball team was last night (Nov. 30) given a hero’s welcome after retaining the GCC Volleyball Championship, which concluded in Doha last Friday (Nov. 29).Bahrain Olympic Committee acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, along with high-ranking committee officials and Bahrain Volleyball Association (BVA) representatives, were present to congratulate members of the victorious Bahrain team.The nationals, whose delegation was headed by BVA president Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, secured the title in the ninth edition of this week-long round for a record fourth time after a come-from-behind victory over hosts Qatar in a five-set thriller.The victory was the fourth successive Bahrain, who emerged as the only unbeaten side in this five-team league format championship, in which the UAE was the only absent team.Coached by Tunisia’s Nizar Al Shakili, Bahrain completed the round robin event on top with 10 points from four matches and ahead of Qatar, who suffered their first and only loss and had to settle for the silver medals.Kuwait rounded off the podium by winning the bronze medal, while Saudi Arabia and Oman finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
