?The Bahrain Olympic Committee hosted special celebration in appreciation to the achievement of Fatima Abdulrazzaq Safar who gave Bahrain the shot put (F-53) gold medal at the recently-concluded 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Bahrain Table Tennis Association president, Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) board member and women’s sport committee chairwoman Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa welcomed Fatima and Ruba Al Omari, who had an honorable finish at the Paralympics.
On this occasion, Shaikha Hayat congratulated both athletes on their marks and conveyed the greetings of His Majesty the King representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and BOC President Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and his best wishes for them in future challenges.
Shaikha Hayat admired the performance and high spirit of Fatima during the competition, resulting in this first-ever gold medal for Bahrain in the history of the Paralympic Games.
She said the victory came as a result of the continued support of sports authorities in Bahrain, headed by Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Shaikha Hayat also noted the significant efforts and contributions of Bahrain Sports for Disabilities Federation Shaikh Mohammed bin Daij Al Khalifa in the massive progress accomplished by Bahrain athletes with disabilities at regional and international competitions.
The ceremony concluded with Shaikha Hayat, along with regional Special Olympics President Shaikh Daij bin Khalifa Al Khaifa and Shaikh Mohammed bin Daij Al Khalifa, presenting the awards to both athletes.
