?Bahrain’s national handball team were granted money prizes for successfully reaching the 2017 World Championship.
The team topped Group ‘B’ at the ongoing 17th Asian Men’s Handball Championship in Bahrain, thus ensuring themselves a place in the semi-finals and a berth in the world championship that will take place in in France in January.
This gesture was initiated by His Majesty the King’s Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman and committee President Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who expressed pride for the team results in the tournament.
Shaikh Nasser said the achievement is a result of the team’s high spirit and their keenness to hold their nation’s flag high to extend its outstanding reputation in major international challenges.
The award news was delivered by Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, who congratulated the team on this new achievement.
Askar extended his appreciation and gratitude to Shaikh Nasser for this generous gesture, and urged the team to continue their impressive run in the continental competition.
The event runs until January 27 with some of Asia’s best handball teams in the fray. Bahrain will play Group ‘A’ runners-up Japan tomorrow (Tuesday), while defending champions Qatar – who topped Group ‘A’, face group ‘B’ second-placers Saudi Arabia, for a place in the final.
