GCC Olympic panels meetings begin

?Bahrain yesterday (November 9) hosted the consultative meeting of the GCC National Olympic Committees Presidents’ Executive Committee to tip off a number of significant meetings on sport related issues in the Arabian Gulf region.The meeting, which took place at the Sheraton Hotel’s Al Taj Ballroom in Manama, brought up a number of issues on the committee agenda.One of them was the general secretaries briefed on a specific schedule to follow-up the procedures related to Qatar hosting the Second GCC Beach Games in 2014.Other issues were reviewing legal observations on joint action bylaws, as well as the observations submitted by national Olympic committees on the bylaws of both the GCC Beach Games and the GCC Games.The meeting, chaired by Bahrain Olympic Committee acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, was also attended by members of the GCC General Secretariat.They are assistant secretary general for Humanitarian and Environmental Affairs at the Secretariat of GCC countries Abdulla bin Oqla Al Hashim of Saudi Arabia, Saudi Arabia Olympic Committee’s Mohammed Al Meshel, Mohammed Al Kammali of the UAE, Taha Al Kishri, Kuwait’s Obaid Al Anezi and Mishal Al Khalifa of Qatar.Following yesterday’s meeting, a gala dinner in honor of the general secretaries of the National Olympic Committees took place at the Ritz Carlton Hotel’s Trader Vic’s Restaurant.Early on, the GCC National Olympic Committees’ general secretaries have already touched on Bahrain on Friday evening. They were received on arrival by Askar, as well as head and members of the Ceremonies Committee.Askar then chaired the Coordination and Follow-up Committee at the Sheraton Hotel’s Budaiya Ballroom, where a number of arrangements have been made ahead of the major meetings to follow. The Coordination and Follow-up Committee comprises Adel Bin Nikhi of Kuwaiti, Tareq Al Abdulla of Qatar, Bader Al Mansoor of Saudi Arabia, Oman’s Salem Al Masroori and Wejdan Al Dahknooi of UAE.Meanwhile,  the 78th meeting of the GCC Olympic Committees Presidents’ Executive Committee will take place today (Nov. 10) at 10.30am at Al Taj Ballroom.The curtains will then fall on this regional summit on Monday when the 12th join meeting of the Executive Committee and the GCC Sport Organising Committees is held at 10.30am at Al Taj Ballroom. The GCC Sport Organising Committee representatives were named for the joint meeting.They include Shaikha Naima Al Ahmed of Kuwait (Women’s Committee), Shaikh Salem Al Qassmi (Fencing), Ahmed Al Raisi (Shooting), Mohammed Al Kammali (Athletics), Shaikh Hamid Bin Butti (Boxing), Abdulla Al Muhiri (Camels Racing), Dawood Al Hajri (Table Tennis),  Hassan Abo Aish (Snooker) and Abdulaziz Al Battal (Squash), Shaikh Sultan Al Hosani (Handball) and Abdulhamid Al Masaud (Gymnastics).The remaining members are Taha Al Koshri (Swimming), Mohammed Al Sulaiti (Taekwondo), Noaman Al Hassan (Sailing), Mohammed Hobash (Basketball), Zayed Mubarak and Salman Al Mas (Weightlifting), Fuad Al Ruiwaie (Tennis), Shaikh Yousif Al Subah and Waleed Aman (Volleyball), Mirza Ahmed (Football), Abdulla Al Dossary (Bowling) and Jassim Mubarak (Disabled Sports).
