?The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) General Assembly today (JUNE 11) will hold the elections to introduce its next board of directors for the 2013-2017 electoral period.
Set to take place at the Sofitel Hotel in Zallaq at 7pm, the elections will see 18 candidates vie for only eight slots to complete the new board line-up.
Among candidates are some of the existing board members – Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa (table tennis),  Adel Al Assomi (basketball), Ali Isa (handball) and Dawood Al Manea (shooting).
Candidates entering the elections for the first time include Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa (tennis), Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa (weightlifting & bodybuilding), Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa (volleyball), Shaikh Ebrahim bin Salman Al Khalifa (fencing), Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa (cycling) and Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa (football).
Other applicants are Dr Khalid Al Alawi (gymnastics), Faisal Swar (swimming), Hisham Al Khan (badminton & squash), Abdulhakim Al Shino and Ruqaya Al Ghasra (athletics), while four candidates representing non-Olympic sports federations will vie for one seat.
They are Isa Abdulrahimm (Sport for All Federation), Abdulla Al Dossary (bowling), Mohammed Nami (athletics for disabled) and Adel Al Fayyad (golf).
The General Assembly of the BOC recently voted Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa for a second consecutive presidency period, besides electing Asian Football Confederation president Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa as a VIP member of the committee.
Today’s programme also includes the amendments of the committee statute submitted by the board of directors, as well as approving the general assembly meeting report, and reviewing the financial report of the BOC in 2012, in addition to a number of suggestions to be presented by the board and the general assembly.
A special committee, tasked at preparing for the general assembly meeting, has finalized all necessary arrangements ahead of this crucial gathering.
The committee includes BOC acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, sports advisor Abduljalil Asad, legal councilor Moneer Al Sagheer and sports associations director Hisham Al Blooshi.
