?Bahrain will be sending 90 athletes and officials from eight sports disciplines for the coming Fourth Asian Beach Games, which will take place in Phuket, in Thailand, from November 14 to 21.
The nationals are scheduled to compete in beach football, beach handball and beach volleyball, in addition to bodybuilding, triathlon, swimming, sailing and athletics.
Delegation director Mohammed Al Ghunaim, along with technical director Lounes Madene, assistant director Dalal Salama and treasurer Yaqoub Abdulmohosin, started to take necessary procedures and arrangements ahead of their trip to the far East.
Bahrain’s teams will all undergo training programmes a week before the Games start, while the administrative delegation is scheduled to leave Phuket soon to finalise the teams accommodation and other relevant issues.
More than 6,000 athletes representing 45 countries from across Asia will gather at Patong Beach to compete in 26 beach or sea sports events where 168 gold medals are up for grabs. The fourth Asian Beach Games will be held at six venues.
The games were originally scheduled for Boracay Island, Aklan, Philippines, but was affected by the OCA’s hosting changes.
It will be the seventh time for Thailand to host an Asia level multi-sports event, after Bangkok held four Asian Games (1966, 1970, 1978 and 1998), one Asian Indoor Games (2005) and one Asian Martial Arts Games (2009). However, it will be the first time that the event won’t be held in Bangkok.
