?Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar recently issued a decision declaring a purpose-formed committee tasked at preparing for the 56th ICHPER.SD Anniversary World Congress and Exposition.
The three-day congress, scheduled from December 18 to 20, will take place for the first time in Bahrain at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Manama.
To focus on the theme ‘Towards building a new sports system’, the congress is held in cooperation with International Council for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sports and Dance (ICHPER.SD).
Askar is heading the committee, which also includes Dr Khalid Al Alawi (general secretary), Hamad Buhijji (treasurer), Fajer Jassim (public relations), Dalal Salama (coordination and follow-up), Mohammed Lori (media), Hamad Al Baker (accommodation and transports), Nawaf Abdulrahman (IT) and Shouf Al Malood (secretary).
The committee will be holding its first meeting in the next few days to start preparing for the congress, which will highlight a number of significant scientific researches related to health, sport, physical education and recreation, to be presented by a group of high-ranking sports personnel from different parts of the world.
ICHPER first conceived in 1950, and was founded in Rome, Italy in 1958. It’s name was extended to ICHPER-SD including Sport and Dance in Yokohama, Japan in 1993. The council includes over 200 countries and self-governing territories around the world.
It’s the largest membership-based international and umbrella organisation that includes academics, teachers, researchers, coaches, educators and administrators in the fields of HPERSD and related areas.
ICHPER-SD has held 55 World Congresses and Expositions. The council has shared Headquarters with AAHPERD/ SHAPE America since 1958.
