Bahrain’s national bowling team has stepped up its preparations for the 17th Asian Games, due to take place in Incheon, in South Korea from September 19 to October 4.
The team, managed by Korean tactician Lee and his assistant Aref Mersal, features some of the kingdom’s most prominent bowlers. They are Mohammed Al Shawoosh, Ahmed Fareed, Taha Ebrahim, Abdulwahed Sharif, Yousif Al Awadi and Shaker Darraj.
Bahrain Bowling Association general secretary Fareed Taha said the team has started extensive training programme of three hours per session, noting that the team is presently practicing four times per week.
Taha said the coach decision to choose his squad was based on their respective personal average scores achieved earlier this year during training sessions, and denied any attempt from the association in the selection process of any player.
“This team is a mixture of experienced and rising bowling players. We have high hopes on them and their coach who is doing a great job with the team,” said Taha.
Lee was recommended by the South Korean Bowling Federation to take over the reign of the Bahraini team during the visit of BBA president Abdulla Al Dossary to South Korea to attend the Asian Indoor Games in 2013.
