General Secretary of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar revealed a plan to enable Bahrain’s athletes presently abroad to take part in the coming parliament and municipal elections, which will take place next week.
The national football team are in Riyadh for the 22nd Gulf Cup football tournament, which continues until November 24.
Eight sporting disciplines – football, volleyball, handball, triathlon, sailing, athletics, bodybuilding and swimming – have recently touched down in Phuket to compete in the Fourth Asian Beach Games, which concludes on November 23.
The national volleyball team is also holding a training camp in Serbia to prepare for the Arab Championship that will take place in Kuwait from November 25 to December 5.
According to Askar, the committee looks to contribute to make the upcoming elections a success. Askar’s statement was announced after a coordinating meeting, which was attended by BOC human resources executive director Ali Zubari, sports affairs executive director Jehad Khalfan, in the presence of women’s sport committee chairwoman Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa.
During the meeting, they committee representatives made count of the Bahraini athletes abroad during elections and set up a plan to facilitate their voting in different Bahrain embassies in their respective locations.
Askar called the executive directors, along with the Foreign Ministry and the elections committee, to facilitate the voting process for all of the Bahraini players staying abroad during the elections.
