?Members of the Bahrain national cycling team were given special awards for their remarkable results at the GCC Championships held in Ras Al Khaimah, in the UAE recently.
The nationals clinched nine medals in total, including three gold, four silver and two bronze, to complete the championship in second place behind overall champions the UAE.
The competition was held from February 14 to 24 and saw the best riders from the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Oman battle it out in a number of races in different age categories.
Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar handed over the awards to members of the team at Isa Sports City gym in Riffa, in the presence of Bahrain Cycling Association president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Askar commended the outstanding results of the team at this major regional challenge, and also praised the efforts of the Bahrain delegation officials, who played a significant part in the achievement.
On his part, Shaikh Khalid expressed pride for the remarkable results of the Bahraini athletes in the championship and thanked the BOC – headed by Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa – for his support to the association and contributing to this well-earned accomplishment.
The awarding ceremony was also attended by BOC board member, Woman’s Sport Committee chairwoman and president of the Bahrain Table Tennis Association Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa.
